Musicians consider their instruments sacred. They often liken them to human beings- each having a unique character. On the occasion of Basant Panchmi, one student of music kept her tanpuras near Saraswati, the goddess of music in Hindu mythology, and other deities. The proceeds from the sale of this work will be shared with the Dagar Brothers Memorial Trust, New Delhi, for the digitisation of audio-visual archives, and with the Spaces Foundation, Chennai, to support the reconstruction of the Chandra-Mandapa and establishment of the museum. The remaining money will be used to fund the artist's ongoing project of documenting the pan-Indic traditions of the instrument making.
