He is also referred as Tryambaka for the third eye, placed on his forehead. It is the eye of wisdom, free from “Maya”, the illusion, and duality of life. It looks beyond the obvious with clear perception, and shows one what is true. Lord Shiva's third eye is also famous for emitting flames that destroy evil.
